Bandung is the capital city of West Java, Indonesia. Known more as a leisure city full with eateries and factory outlets, Bandung is the main destination of people from Jakarta during weekends. Many universities are situated in Bandung, so view of students and their activities could be found everywhere in the city. The weather is mostly fair at about 26-30 degrees C with occasional rains, commands an event that ideally held indoor.
Now the fun part, the RC Drift Event was held on Sunday Dec 13th, 2009 in Miko Mall, the first of its kind in Bandung and Indonesia because this event, unlike before, was using RCDA regulations which is basically point base competition. Usually what is known to be ‘drifting’ in Indonesia is actually racing in street style, complete with transponder, lap time, the whole nine yards.
Sad indeed but nevertheless the event is everything about setting things right. It was not an easy task for the event organizer mainly moved by Maxwell Pane, Sulistiyo Arief and Rukman Sadikin and the KaBut SalJu crew. But they made it happen.
The event was mainly aimed at socializing the point base regulations as well as attracting newcomers to the hobby.
Though competition (which was also attended by competitor from Jakarta and Kuningan) was not the main focus, it was a definite success from Qualifying Round till the Final Battle. Some drift challenge games were supposed to be run as well but the organizer eventually run only one. The highlight of the competition was when seasoned Anton Mulyadi of Bandung met Yuda with countersteer modder of Jakarta in the 4th spot qualifier for semi final round. The battle saw 2 rounds of one more time and ended with sudden death winning by Anton.
Arief Sulistiyo battle it hard but lost to Eric in the semi final, while Anton book himself for the final round, beating Felix by close margin. Anton in the end saw Eric out during Final Battle, which was dubbed ‘Battle of the Classics’ with Anton’s Camaro beating Eric’s KPGC10. Congrats to Anton for the battle hard fought.
Some feedback from the guys gave plenty compliments for the organizer, for the awesome track layout, goodies, atmosphere and adrenalin rush though event started a bit later than scheduled. Some of the guys can still feel the vibes until today…
So big round of applause for the event well done. Hopefully next time more guys participate and help out.
